This is a project for an Illustration course at school. The idea was to create a product advertisement incorporating an actual photograph of the product. For my product, I chose the Lancia Stratos.
The illustration is a two page spread intended for a magazine (hence the noticible split at the bottom center of the image. Once split, it flows more evenly)
The idea I had was to create an advert that had a vintage feel while focusing more on the Stratos as an image of style rather than a machine. I tried to place the Lancia into a wider demographic than just men and boys, and wanted to create a graphic that reflected the era from which the Lancia came.
This project is my first time really working with a tablet to illustrate something. Hard to adjust to at first, but I am slowly getting more used to it. I liked working with a more mature style, and the whole illustration was based on various artistic influences ranging from works of Eugene Grasset to the more extreme yet beautiful Hirohiko Araki.
The font, an alphabet based on the Stratos emblem lettering, is called Altastrada designed by Kevin McCauley. It is free to use for personal use, and I encourage chicking it out. jalopnik.com/5806222/download-…
Then I just listened to a lot of 'Yes' albums on the record player to get an atmosphere and here is the finished piece.
